Alex Prager, the Los Angeles based photographer just revealed her newest series Week-End with back to back openings, the first at Yancey Richardson in New York on January 14, 2010 followed by an opening at M+B in Los Angeles on January 30, 2010. This series Week-End acted as a seamless continuation of her last two series Polyester and Big Valley, perhaps pushing the boundaries of normality or lack there of a bit more. The work is some of the best color photography out there and has a great cinematic quality to it. Compared to photographers like Cindy Sherman, William Eggleston and Guy Bourdin, one could only be so lucky to be placed among these heavy weights. Growing up in Los Angeles, Prager’s surroundings are clearly a strong influence in her work. The highly stylized photographs focus on young women dressed in 60’s styled retro clothing, disguised in wigs, in somewhat of damsel in distress situations, straddle fashion editorial and fine art photography. Definitely go check out the exhibits, worth seeing.
